What does a music producer do?

Traditionally, a music producer would oversee the artistic process of making a song or an album. This would involve finding and choosing songs, having arrangements made, choosing studios and recording engineers and musicians, finding the right mix engineer, and guiding all the participants through the creation process, including recording and songwriting to ensure that all goes well. A good producer would also research, evaluate, and review appropriate musical style, and tailor their approach according to the needs of the artist.

A music producer can also manage budgets, schedule deadlines, establish technical needs, solve problems and make decisions based on time and resources available, and manage administrative activities.

What kind of work do you do?

In addition to the role of music producer as described above, I also compose, arrange, and mix music. I own my own recording studio, and can record and edit vocal and musical sessions, restore and repair audio files, sync sound to picture, etc.

Can you sign me?

No, a record producer doesn’t sign artists. That is the job of a record label. I am not a label. But I can help you to be the best you can be artistically. I can also assist you in making a cohesive and complete album, guide you to find the best direction for you musically, and define your sound.

Can you listen to my demo and tell me what you think?

Yes, I can listen to what you have, and I do offer consulting.

Do you work with independent artists?

Yes, most of the people I have worked with started out as independent artists. The industry is moving more in the direction where they are not willing to sign and invest in an artist until most of the work has been finished. As a result, more and more artists are independent, and don’t have the support they would normally get from a label, which is where I come in. I offer professional services at competitive prices for demos, albums, and post-production services.

I don’t live in Montreal. Can we still work together?

Yes, I work with artists on many different continents. Thanks to technology it is now very easy to collaborate over long distances.

Can you teach me to produce, record, mix, arrange, or compose music?

Yes, I am currently teaching at Musitechnic, an Accredited Technical College in Montreal. I also offer private seminars on most audio topics including: recording, mixing, arranging, manipulating acoustics, harmony, music aesthetics, etc.

How much do you charge?

It varies from project to project. The best thing to do is to contact me, so I can have a better idea of what you are looking for and what services you need.

What is your schedule?

I am very flexible. I also work evenings and weekends. Once we have established your needs, we can work out a timeline and schedule sessions accordingly.
